Fumigation, ISPM 15, IPPC - what does it mean and why is it so important?

The international ISPM 15 standard (commonly known as IPPC and fumigation) is a description of the method of thermal treatment of wooden packaging, ensuring the elimination of harmful organisms living naturally in wood (bacteria, insects, fungi). The wooden pallets we produce are subjected to heat treatment to eliminate any pests from the wood.

ISPM 15 provides detailed guidance on the eradication of all quarantine pests from timber. The main purpose of fumigation is to reduce the risk of spreading harmful organisms in international traffic. In the case of transport pallets, there is a risk of transferring living organisms naturally existing in wood to other regions of the world, which may pose a threat to local ecosystems.

Phytosanitary requirements are necessary when exporting goods, but also when using wooden packaging, industrial/disposable pallets for the storage and transport of food products.

Palety fitosanitarne, czyli palety suszone.

The most popular type of treatment in Poland is HT (heat treatment), in our company we perform it in large-chamber dryers. The abbreviation HT means that the wood (wooden pallets) has been kiln-dried, at a high, precisely defined temperature and in the right time.

Products subjected to heat treatment – fumigation (in accordance with the ISPM 15 standard) are marked with a special logo. According to the ISPM 15 guidelines, it must be on each wooden pallet/package.

All wooden pallets in our offer (disposable pallets, frame pallets, industrial pallets, unusual / non-standard pallets, box pallets, scantling pallets, pallet lids, pallets with a full top) can have the ISPM 15 certificate. It is worth choosing them for international shipments, because the IPPC certificate is an essential part of the shipping documentation, and without it, the goods may not be allowed to enter another country.
